Liskeard Show

The Liskeard Show is always held on the second Saturday in July, which will be

12th July 2008

Latest News - 8th July - 4 days to go

The committee is mindful of the conditions last year, and of the recent rain and forecast for the rest of the week. There has been a meeting on the showground, and the decision has been made to go ahead almost as normal. The one exception is that the BSJA events have been cancelled for this year. Everything else is as planned.

Several precautions are being taken - hardcore is being laid, and so forth. The marquees are up.

Cattle and sheep movement restrictions have been eased - there is an excellent (maybe a record) number of sheep entries. Horse entries have been well supported. The craft tent is fully booked. There is no truth in any rumours that are circulating - the Show has not been cancelled. Everyone who came last year had a great time: come and enjoy yourself this year - and support all those who have put so much effort into the arrangements.

Schedules are now available on the www, here,
and printed copies have been posted and are now available in the usual outlets.

Applications for stands and stalls should be made NOW since space is limited and it is allocated on a first-come-first served basis. Applications close on 14th June, or earlier if fully booked.

The Craft Tent is now fully booked. Please do not apply for space - there is none left.
A reserve list has been prepared to substitute for any cancellations: the reserve list is now full.
The committee will consider the possibility of extra space for 2009 - but the
solution is not easy. The lesson is simple - book early for 2009 for this popular feature.

The show is open all day, and is held in several fields at Merrymeet in the district of Caradon, on the eastern side of Cornwall. The show site is clearly signposted from the A390, the Liskeard to Callington Road. There are numerous displays; special events; competitions; entertainments; trade stands; roundabouts; and sideshows. Marquees are provided for teas; bars; crafts; stalls; and for the smaller animals and poultry. The Liskeard Town Band will be playing. There is plentiful car parking, and lots of places to picnic or buy lunch and snacks.

The Liskeard Show is one of the biggest in the South West, and has always had a wide selection of high quality entries in the large animal classes, and you can see smaller animals, cavies, donkeys, poultry, fruit and vegetables, and flowers, as well: or better still, come and compete!

This website gives you general information about shows, and more detailed guidance about the Liskeard Show in particular. There is a map, and there are pictures of recent shows, and dates of other shows in Cornwall and Devon.
